Birthday Resolutions

on Mar 24, 14 in Life by with No Comments

Last week, I celebrated my birthday. Each year on my birthday, I like to reflect onbirthday my accomplishments from the year before, and set goals for myself for the coming year—kind of like New Year’s resolutions.

Last year, I went through a lot of changes. I graduated from college, had my first job, and started a life for myself in Atlanta, away from my family. Like every year, it was filled with highs and lows.

In the coming year, I hope to accomplish many things. Below are a few personal goals of mine.

Exercise 3 times per week

I always try to exercise as much as possible, but sometimes life gets in the way. Whether I’m traveling, have a cold, or just extremely busy, I can always find  a reason not to workout. I usually go through phases—I either workout all the time, or not at all. This year, my goal is to remain consistent with my workout routines and stick to exercising a minimum of three times per week. Instead of finding reasons not to head to the gym, I’m going to give myself reasons to head to the gym.

Run a 5K

I’ve always wanted to run a race, whether it be a 5K or a full 26.2 mile marathon. Unfortunately, running is difficult for me due to a foot injury I sustained eight years ago (cannot believe it’s been that long!). The injury resulted in three casts, two years on crutches, and one surgery. I have tried to get back into running since then, but it’s still painful for me if I do it too often.

Recently, I was inspired by my brother, Keith Petri, who is running his first marathon in May. This year, I want to run my first 5K for a great cause.

Yoga Teacher Training

I’m an avid yogi. I have been practicing yoga consistently for three years now, and truly believe there are great benefits. Yoga has helped me with acceptance, patience and stress release. I truly believe in its many benefits. This year, I hope to attend my first yoga teacher training.

Write one blog post each week

I have been saying that I will start blogging for years. A few weeks ago, I finally took the step and published my first post. I want to continue to share my thoughts, and blog once each week.

Make plans

Too many times, life gets in the way of making plans with friends. Whether it’s working late, being tired, or simply not having enough time, it can be hard to schedule. Recently, I have made more of an effort to see my friends and make fun plans. It’s been really great, and I want to continue to do so during the coming year.
